About This Event
Festival overview
Snana Yatra (Deva Snana Purnima) is the grand bathing festival of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Sudarshana. The deities are ceremonially brought to the Snana Bedi (bathing platform) and bathed with 108 pitchers of sacred water — a deeply moving ritual. After the bath, the deities take on the Gajanana Besha — the Elephant Face attire — a rare and unique form. Following this, they retire into Anabasara (seclusion) for 15 days to 'recover', before emerging refreshed just before Rath Yatra.
